Hurley Middle School in Seekonk, MA. Pat Dumas asked if I would be interested in speaking to her students about Full Circle 911. I met with over 90 students! In addition to telling my story and how the book came to be I also talked about the importance of being an individual, on using your imagination, reading and writing. The presentation included student participation, a look at the trials and tribulations of famous people and a Q & A session at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school. The following is a thank you letter that I’d like to share with you: Thank you SO MUCH for coming to Hurley Middle today. My teammates were all saying that they couldn't believe it was your first encounter speaking to middle schoolers! You did everything right... you were fascinating, inspiring, involved the audience, gave away cool gifts, kept things moving, etc. We so appreciate the time, the expertise, and the thought you put into your speaking engagement. It all paid off, and as I said earlier, the effect of your presentation may be felt for many, many years. I had one small group of boys last period and they all were so enthusiastic! I can't wait to hear from the rest of the kids tomorrow. You made a lasting impression, and I feel that many were inspired enough to think of a literary career. By the way, we just did a unit on tolerance, and everything you said about everyone being special in his/her own way fit in beautifully to what we have been teaching. I’ll be adding additional school appearances and details as soon as they are available.
